Obama, Notre Dame and Catholic bishops

May 18th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I wrote about this earlier, I still can’t get over how American bishops vigorously protested the selection of President Obama as a commencement speaker at Notre Dame. Here’s why the gesture is so hypocritical.

1. Most American bishops aided and abetted child-molesting priests — that didn’t seem to be a grave moral issue for them.

2. Most American bishops would have gladly hosted President George W. Bush in their dioceses, despite the fact that he ordered the Iraqi War, which Pope John Paul II proclaimed “unjust.” And Bush favors capital punishment, which is against Catholic teaching.

I’m just saying, be consistent.

Hey Bill, did you find anyone interesting on that list of bishops who had signed off protesting against Obama speaking at Notre Dame?
