William Lobdell, 47, is a journalist with the Los Angeles Times. Lobdell covered the religion beat for The Times for eight years, first as a columnist and then as a beat reporter. He earned several national awards for his work before becoming a metro editor for the paper in 2006.
He is currently on a leave writing a book, tentatively titled “Jesus Wept,” for Harper Collins about how he lost his faith while covering religion for The Times.
He also has been a visiting faculty member for 11 years at the University of California, Irvine, where he teaches “Religion and the Media,” “Politics and the American Media,” and “Blogs and the Politics.”
He lives in Costa Mesa, Calif. with his wife, Greer, and four boys. In his spare time, he competes in the sport of triathlon and competed the Florida Ironman in 2006.
