Ask any journalist who strayed onto the religion beat and he/she will tell you that the nastiest feedback, by far, comes people of faith. I always chalked it up to the passion of people’s beliefs.
But it always bothered me. Shouldn’t religious folks be the most loving and gentle of commenters? Yeah, I know, it’s a pipedream considering the evidence you see around the world. Plus, the God of the Old Testament had an anger problem, and Jesus was known to lash out. But still.
I’ve braced for criticism of my memoir, but it still kind of amazes me when it comes in. Here’s the latest (complete with the crazy typos):
What a fool. If you die tomorow are you sure what will happeb next. I feel sorry for you bu we will keep you in prayer. Jesus my only love I pray for william whom you love. Bur know. Not how to love you may he be purified and healed so william will be exempt from all evil. God bless you and show you way the truth and life.
