This is a frightening story

Check this out. Makes you wonder who else is out there.

P.S. I apologize for the lack of posts. I’ve started a new business, and I’m operating my wife’s business while she has been in Kenya for a month helping AIDS orphans and others. She has plenty of amazing stories, including how religion takes advantage of the least among the Africans. More later. Finally, I’m taking care of our four boys solo. If I had the guts, I’d post a picture of our home four weeks after the single female has left!

“Religion takes advantage of the least among the Africans”?

People take advantage and use religion to do this!

Are you saying that there wouldn’t be advantages taken amongst the least if their wasn’t religion?

Of course, regardless of semantics it is completely unacceptable and shameful!

Hello! I read your book yesterday and loved it. Your story is wonderfully told.

I’m wondering if you can recommend a book or two on the Catholic sex abuse cases? I was a cradle Catholic and brought up in the Boston area. Although already calling myself an Atheist at the time, I remember being shocked and almost doubtful of the news of how far Bernard Law went to cover the abuses of the priests under him. After reading your book, I’m interested to read more.

    Thank you!

I hope you’ll get more specific, otherwise it appears as a baseless attack.

Good luck on The Daily Voice!

Growing up in Costa Mesa the Daily Pilot was our hometown newpaper and I have many good memories of it as a kid in the 60’s. I still look in on the website from time to time and now I have a new place to go with your venture.

I just finished Mr. Lobdell’s book. I want to thank him for taking the same walk as I did 2 years ago. And, for having the courage to put it out there for the world.

I had my doubts, even as a church-going child. It sounds stupid, but the movie The Da Vinci Code took me to the Hiram Key, which took me to the Masonic Bible, the Holy Biblefrom cover to cover, the Gnostic Books and many others. I spent months delving into the history of the ancient lands and devoured everything the History Channel had on the subject. I read Dawkins and was able to meet with him. I joined Humanistic organization. I spent two years searching, only to come to the conclusion that I had been carrying around all of my life. THERE SIMPLY ISN’T AND WASN’T ANY TRUTH TO THESE FABLES.

I didn’t have to go through the same withdrawl symptoms that you did because I had never really bought into the tales, so I had nothing to recover from.

It was a cleansing of my mind once I put it all together. I no longer have to pretend to “believe” in front of my Bible thumping evangalistic friends, or pretend to be happy while being prayed over. Of course, I am now viewed as someone who is going to spend a long time within the confines of their “hell”, but I feel that they have created their own hell.

I see myself in Julia Sweeney’s story. It sounds as though she has also found that it’s OK not to believe. Thank you for telling yours.
