My editor at HarperCollins sent me an e-mail telling me that my memoir, “Losing My Religion: How I Lost My Faith Reporting on Religion in America–and Found Unexpected Peace,” is now in its fourth printing.

Boo-yah!

Fourth printing is not the same as fourth edition. Trust me: if you’d been through four editions, you’d have been working hard on the updates!

Hi Bill, I recently read the USA Today article on your book. Loosing Religion is not a bad thing as for the most part Religion is of Man, not of God. God created Man, came him free will. God breathed his Word into what became The Bible. What we must all not forget is that this is a fallen world. As such everyone sins…just because someone declares themselves a Christian and finds hope and faith in Jesus Christ does not make him perfect, does not mean he will never sin again, does not mean that they will sin of lessor magnitude. The hypocisy of man and the media in the 21st century is that Christians are put on a pedastal that we did NOT ask for. The only one elevated in Man’s eye is God. The priest is just as vulnerable to sin as the average person walking the street…that is life in a fallen world. Religion is a creation of man and a leading cause of hypocrisy / judgement by other men and the media. As a Christian…I believe in God, I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the Word of God - Bible. I am not Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, etc…I sin every day, yet I seek God in everything I do and am as a person. I submit to God’s plan and will for me. I cry, when my Mom passes away at 71 years old, I get angry at God for taking her, but I submit to Him, I have hope that I will see her again, I have faith she is in a better place and is perfect and whole now. Blessings on you for “losing your religion”…don’t loose faith and hope that comes in Jesus Christ.
