Vatican should save its apology

November 26th, 2008 · 3 Comments

This recently in from Reuters:

The Vatican’s newspaper has finally forgiven John Lennon for declaring that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, calling the remark a “boast” by a young man grappling with sudden fame.

Ah, how out of touch are Vatican officials? John Lennon — who’s been dead for more than 25 years — never sought forgiveness from the Catholic Church for his remark in 1966 that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.” That’s probably because his remark was meant to point out the absurdity of the Beatles’ popularity and wasn’t meant to be an actual comparsion to Jesus.

I’d personally love the Vatican officials to spend their time more wisely and start thinking about a way to get around church doctrine so parishes in Africa can start handing out condoms so stem the AIDS epidemic there and save millions of lives.

Sheesh your buddies at the Vatican are so plugged in to what’s important.

You got it right, they have it wrong. Coincidentally I wrote about John Lennon on my blog today.
