Action film star Jason Statham looks just like me, except that he’s younger and his body is a little softer, though he works out almost as much as I do.
Okay, I had an infected foot that kept me from working out for a couple of weeks. Worse than that, much of the time I was in bed with my tootsie elevated on doctor’s orders. I went into a funk as I watched my foot and belly swell (staph and no exercise, respectively). Yesterday, I almost wrote a post titled, “The Walls Are Closing In.” It just felt as though everything in my life was squeezing in on me, with no way out.
What a difference a workout makes. Today was the first day I was able to go to my beloved Spin and pilates classes. I got to reunite with my second family there, sweat like crazy and nearly throw up. It was great.
Now I’m feeling the post-workout high. The troubles have faded into the background. Depression vanished. Life, again, is good.

So, my psychiatrist keeps telling me…You’re right though, it does help with depression.

It works! Even if I “don’t have time”… I AM able to find a few minutes to go run around the block (takes me 7 1/2 minutes) and I return happy. Every time.
I think it’s the fresh air, but I’m not sure how fresh the air is at your spin class… I mean, people hurl, right?
So maybe it’s the “breathing heavy” that does the trick.
Hey, I may be onto something…
