Adam Carolla on why he’s an atheist

He’s way funnier than me and more strident, but he makes some great points from an atheist point-of-view.

I like how he says imagine if I’d been around a few thousand years ago and made-up a religion where there was a God and you died and just ended up as dirt and he says it wouldn’t have sold too well. Hmmmmm, have you or Carolla ever heard of a religion called Judiasm. Um, it’s only lasted about 3,000 years and seems to be doing alright and, yet, unlike Christianity, Judiasm does not believe in the resurrection of the body. Carolla says he’s an atheist b/c he has a brain and he’s smart ~ oh, yeah he’s a f-ing genius alright.

Corolla begins by saying definitively that he “knows there is no God” and then he uses examples of human misery coupled with the “fear of the unknown” argument. It would be interesting to hear this self-proclaimed atheist try to substantiate his claims with any sort of proof, because religious people of faith use his same arguments in reverse to substantiate their own beliefs. It’s a matter of faith either way you look at it.

I’ll stick with the optimistic words of Jesus rather than the dreary pessimism of an average comedian. What a drag that guy is…

I love what Adam had to say –

J_Sorensen – “It’s a matter of faith either way you look at it.” I’ll stick with the optimistic words of Jesus rather than the dreary pessimism of an average comedian. What a drag that guy is…
Adam hit it right on the nose – why are you ‘sticking with Jesus’ because it feels warm and fuzzy and is optimistic??? It’s easy to sleep well at night thinking your god is taking care of world hunger, child abuse and all the world problems. Don’t ever tell an atheist that you are sticking with god because he is optimistic. That is ridicules to say the least!
Read these blogs and books with an open mind and really examine your god – how well do you know him?

Very wise commentary by Mr. Carolla.
I too am an atheist in the sense that it is obvious to me what most people profess to believe re. concepts of God are patently ridiculous.
There is such a thing, however (actually not a “thing”), as the truth of ultimate reality: Oneness, and it can be discovered by most people.
If you want to call this “God”, I don’t have a problem with that, but this is the only acceptable use of the word.
